I do have another charcoal anatomy study to post, but I wanted to get back in to the swing of working digitally, so for practice I’ve made a pic of Annie and Reynard from the wonderful webcomic Gunnerkrigg Court:

So I did not make it to any of the open sessions or anything last week, and I needed to get my portfolio done. Thankfully my lovely wife  Nicki was willing to pose for me and allow me to peel her skin off… in the drawing, of course. For a musculature study. No, really.  Here is the initial version of her, pre- flaying:

Hello! I did not end up making it to the open session at MCC last Friday, indeed I missed the lecture on trunk musculature last Wednesday as well. So… this is the first charcoal piece I’ve finished since last Monday. I’m going back in tomorrow to try to make this up. In the meantime, though,  as I have 2 more pieces due in the portfolio I need to turn in by the end of the week. Whee! So here’s my attempt at torso musculature without having the knowledge of a lecture to back me up… hope my anatomy texts were enough to make up for that.

I may go back and fix some of the details that are still bothering me but I am SO tired of looking at this now… I’m going to bed. Good night!

So I’m taking this art anatomy class over at Mesa Community College. And the instructor there, Gingher Leyendecker, is totally awesome. I highly recommend any of her classes- particularly her art anatomy and painting classes- to anyone in the Phoenix area. Today’s life drawing was focusing on the musculature of the neck , thus the following:

I liked the model for this, she had a kind of Disney-villain look about her. I was afraid she was going to banish me to a correctional institution or something.

There’s going to be an open session at MCC on Friday so I should be posting more like this if I make it there.
